Speed is one of the founding assumptions of Futurism, and therefore works on this subject have an interest beyond that of the specific artist. Ambrosi, apart from an initial phase during the 1920s when he was close to secessionist stylistic features, was essentially an aeropainter once he founded the Veronese Futurist Group in 1931. Thus, at first glance, this drawing dedicated to the bicycle theme is surprising. In reality, Ambrosi produced a number of them, as well as some dedicated to the automobile, such as illustrations for magazines: and this is why he only called himself G. Ambrosi instead of 'A.G. Ambrosi', precisely to distinguish himself from the Ambrosi aeropainter. In this drawing, the central feature is the subject in the foreground, two cyclists, the first of a small group, engaged in a final sprint. The colour, unlike other drawings, makes the vision three-dimensional. This work is therefore of great interest because it enlightens us on another aspect of the futurist research of this Veronese artist.
