Ambrosi, originally from Verona, produced several paintings with aeronautical subjects during the 1930s. In the present drawing, Ambrosi prefigures a possible aerial bombing action by mentioning the German Ruhrstahl X-4 air-to-air missile that entered service in 1942.
Ambrosi's setting was likely intended for an article in an aviation magazine, announcing future air armaments being planned.
The color rendering is intense and evocative, well portraying the idea of this new air weapon. At that time, war was fought not only on battlefields or in the skies but also with propaganda.
